peep this

Welcome to The Shallow Brigade, your trusted source for hard-hitting peep diorama news. Once again, we're providing head-to-head analysis of the original contest (sponsored by The Washington Post, now in its fourth year) and the ripoff version (sponsored by The Chicago Tribune, in its second year).

As usual, D.C.'s winner is absolutely impeccable. Here it is, a rendering of the house from the movie Up:

Meanwhile, here in Chicago, the contest took a disturbing turn:

WTF, Chicago? I mean, a classic theme in these dioramas is the peepification of iconic scenes from violent movies, as we saw in the Post's 2007 Psycho diorama:

But these new blood-spattered scenes are clearly the product of untreated mental illness.

Speaking of mental illness, check out Chicago's Jersey Shore-themed diorama:

which was clearly constructed by someone who believes in giant rat people.

Like last year, certain scenes were recreated in both contests. Those were kinda boring, though, so instead I'll just show you my favorites. In Chicago, what this Doctor Who diorama lacks in execution it makes up for with the idea to create a Dalek peep:

And here's what I believe to be Chicago's rightful winner, this adorable Frankenpeep:

Over in D.C., I loved this awesome Super Mario Bros diorama:

And I thought that "Peeps & Prejudice and Zombies" was great:

Thank you, crafty disturbed people, for another delightful Easter.
